Cria DVD (En Espaniol) $4.00 and shipping
I took this film in a video library and watched it 3 times. It is one
of the most powerful films I have ever seen. The techniques in the film
are very modest but it's amazing what the director does with them. I
liked very much this sad and quiet girl. The scene where her pet dies
and she buries him is so solemn and heart-breaking. I felt sad about
the old Grandmother who watches the old pictures in sadness. I also
liked Geraldine Chaplin, she is very good in this role, her intimate
bond with the daughter, and how she looks at Ana with sadness when the
girl doesn't notice it. The scene where the girl imagines her mom
combing her hair is mesmerizing.

Dan Candy's Law DVD $4.00 and $2.50 shipping
I like Chief Dan George, so that was a plus right there. However I
thought it added realism to the movie. The dialogue, the sets, the
wardrobe, the scenery. It almost looked like someone had a video camera
back in those days and actually filmed what was taking place. It's
always a good thing when movies use real Indians instead of actors that
are painted up to look like Indians. You would think that I would have
givin' this movie a higher rating with all the positive things I've
said,
Daud DVD (Bollywood) $7.00 and $2.50 shipping
Deadly Look Of Love DVD $3.00 and shipping
I gave it 5 stars out of a possible 10. Felt like being generous. Besides
it was watchable. In fact, in places it was unintentionally humorous -
especially the court room scene.
I don't think I've seen such "harassing the witness" "leading the witness" and "presenting your closing argument while questioning a witness", in my life. Shades of Perry Mason! LOL!
Holland Taylor, a marvelous character actress, plays a Defense lawyer in the
film -- and is delightful during the courtroom scene. Before we get to the courtroom, however, we begin with a young woman named
Janet, who lives a little too much in a romantic fantasy
world. She is being used by a married man, who really has very little intention of
divorcing his wife to marry her. In fact, he passes her on to a friend of
his, named Brett. Janet sees Brett as her "Prince Charming riding in on a white horse". He is
far better looking than the man she was having the affair with, tall, dark
and handsome. Janet falls obsessively in love with Brett
Becker. There's a problem, however, Brett is interested in marrying a very wealthy
heiress.Yes, a crime occurs, and we are kept guessing as to just who did
it.
Certainly not a masterpiece, but a fun film if you just want to past the
time. The main complaint I have about the film is the low quality film that
was apparently used to shoot it -- there is no such thing as a sharp, crisp
image of anyone or anything throughout this entire movie.
Death And Resurrection DVD (Religious) $3.00 and $2.50 shipping
Death And Salvation DVD (Religious) $3.00 and $2.50 shipping
The Death Merchants DVD $4.00 and $2.50 shipping
A sensate audience will probably prefer a struggle with typhus than
having to watch more than once this remarkably shoddy attempt at making
a crime melodrama; a strong reaction to the film, it shall be admitted,
yet from its beginning frames until its ending, there is no moment of
able craftsmanship in it, but rather substandard performances from
among members of its cast and crew. Ludicrous Lawrence Tierney is
dusted off to play in the lead role as Ivan Yates, a powerful dealer in
illicitly obtained nuclear arms who has sold an advanced missile
guidance system microchip that he has managed to garner, only to have
it stolen from him before he can make delivery to a "terrorist" buyer,
the latter having already transferred funds to Ivan's Swiss bank
account. Yates, made grumpy by this embarrassing incident, begins to
murder United States Naval Intelligence agents, and others, for no
especial reason discernible from within an essentially incoherent
screenplay. To accomplish his felonious deeds, Yates relies in the main
upon a duo of homicidal as well as pulchritudinous female assistants.
An understandably bewildered young man, accompanied by an almost awake
girl friend, and supposedly holding some sort of law enforcement
position with the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, is
assigned to solve the multi-jurisdictional killings instigated by
Yates. That Department, the City's smallest, has no enforcement
function or capability, this being typical of the grotesque
inaccuracies that riddle a cartoonish production. The work is witlessly
opened with its climactic storyline scene, after which comes what leads
up to that point in the narrative, including the climactic scene
repeated in toto. Direction is unskilled, editing is inefficient,
camera-work is amateurish, but it is the execrable sound quality that
is the very worst element of the movie (guns that fire with mismatched
sound, or no sound at all!; consistently sloppy synching; oft
unintelligible dialogue; an intrusive and overloud score) including a
great deal of mumbling and bumping about in the background by crew
members. Special effects are comically inferior with atrocious use of
squibs. A few capable players are here who ostensibly had no other
casting choices available (it is, after all, a job) but there is
nothing of merit for them within the script. There is, however, a
modicum of pleasure gained by recognizing several veteran stuntmen who
are on board during one sequence, seen tossing one of the principal
characters into a trash dumpster, a location into which the print of
this draff (overstretched after its initial few minutes) should also
have been deposited.

Sahiba confides in Karan about her painful past and not-so-pretty
future. Sahiba is the daughter of the stern and stony-faced patriach,
industrialist Yagvendra Grewal who wants to see her settle down with
the very suitable son of his friend, Rai Bahadur. Unwilling to get tied
down too soon with a stranger, Sahiba lies to her family telling them
she got married while studying in the city and is now terrified of
returning to Palanpur without a husband. Karan chivalrously offers to
make the trip home with her and tell her father that she was forced to
lie to him to avoid an early marriage. Along the way, Sahiba falls in
love with Karan but he is still starry-eyed about his model. They
arrive in Palanpur and Karan soon endears himself to Sahiba's extended
family that includes her father, his three younger brothers, their
wives and Biji, Sahiba's doting grandmother. Only Yagvendra refuses to
accept his son-in-law, who he is convinced is after Sahiba's crores.
Karan, who's never had a family of his own, is easily drawn into the
warmth surrounding him and life is fine till one of Sahiba's aunts
mistakenly assumes that Sahiba's expecting and spreads the word around.
Suddenly, even Sahiba's grim father is grinning and life's a bed of
roses again for Sahiba, who begs Karan not to leave her ever. Karan on
his part finds himself falling in love with his enchanting
wife-who-isn't and scared of a future he hasn't planned for, slinks off
into the night to meet Nisha. But Nisha is already married and
convinces him that Sahiba is his true love and he should return to
Palanpur. He does to find that Yagvendra Singh and his family now want
to have nothing more to do with him. Sahiba's father wants her to start
a new life with Rai Bahadur's son but at the engagement ceremony,
Sahiba recognizes him as the murderer she had fled from in the city.
She tries to warn her father about his friend and her fiancé but
Yagvendra is deaf to all her pleas. However, his younger brother Raunak
sides with Karan and tries to prevent the marriage from taking place.
But Sahiba believing all is lost, consumes poison before her Romeo can
reach her.

Gladiators 7 / Invincible Gladitors Double Feature DVD (Action) $3.00 and $2.50 shipping
Gladiators 7:If you are pretty mediocre as a director and they want you to make a film
with only very little money, what's the outcome? - "I due gladiatori" is an
excellent example of the cheap-produced Italian historical pictures of the
early sixties. Relying partly on models such as "Ben-Hur", one could call
them monumental, only there was nothing monumental left in
1964.
For instance: when a man is holding a rat that has been hunted by the hungry crowd, the next take shows a juicy meal, and, as the camera zooms, we see it being brought to the emperor at a small party. Nice idea so far, but we can be sure that Mario Caiano would have loved to show a vast orgy in consequence, but there's nothing more to eat than the bit that has just been carried in, and there's just a small number of guests standing around. As more examples, the arena fighting scenes are reduced to taking place at the 20-foot front of the stadium's wall, and what is supposed to be a battle between Romans and - Gauls (did I get that right?) is merely a skirmish of some 30 against 30.
The story, however, is somewhat interesting though not new at all. It is based on the true fact that emperor Commodus (180-192 AD) used to fight as a gladiator himself from time to time. Writers Amendola and Brescia also made use of the fact that Commodus had a twin brother (who died early); here, he survived and grew up unknowingly. - Now that emperor Mark Aurel has died (awkwardly dated into 191), his son Commodus succeeds to the throne and turns out to be a despot (that idea is poorly established). Loyal senator Tarrunio gets on his way to seek the twin brother he once was ordered to kill but saved. This man, Centurio Crassus, follows Tarrunio to Rome (hey, what about the Gallic invasion?) in order to overthrow the tyrant.
A couple of the ideas, especially the setting, are taken from Anthony Mann's "The Fall of the Roman Empire" (1963, with Christopher Plummer as Commodus), while the linking of brothers Commodus and Crassus reminds of Stephen Boyd and Charlton Heston's doomed relationship in "Ben-Hur" (1959) - "closer than brothers", as Boyd says.
Handsome Richard Harrison is a poor replacement for Boyd (in "The Fall..."); but especially the task of writing effective women's rôles into the story remained unaccomplished. (Moira Orfei is a beautiful temptress as ever, though.) Giuliano Gemma and Alvaro de Luna as Harrison's faithful friends add to the hero's nonchalant bravado. Mimmo Palmara is an excellent fighter (as he has often proved in the genre), but as Commodus he is colourless. Peplum's classic heavies Piero Lulli and Alberto Farnese do well as the emperor's sinister advisors Cleander and Leto. Yet, it is not enough to make this cheap flick average at least, in a genre that had lost most of its momentum and magic anyway. Composer Carlo Franchi, too, has contributed better scores before.
Invincible Gladiator: bove average peplum with Richard Harrison showing some real acting talent,
as well as muscle, in this, his first Italian adventure
feature.
The fight scenes are very well done and Harrison is given a real chance to
show his athletic abilities and coordination, and the budget is obviously a
cut above what was normally shelled out for this type of
picture.
